Starkey Flythe was an outstanding, well-published poet, and a writer and mentor to many in the Augusta area. His last poem was published in The New Yorker shortly before he passed away, and his legacy lives on in many other fine publications as well. Starkey was a member of the group which sponsors this poetry contest, The Author’s Club of Augusta. The Author’s Club of Augusta welcomes submissions from both students and faculty. For details, take a look at the poster below.
Steven Corey of The Georgia Review said of Starkey: “To me…Starkey was a poet first and last, with several volumes and more than several stunning individual poems to his credit.” What better way to honor his memory than with your own poetry?
